Businessman 'abducted' in Ampang, released in Klang

KUALA LUMPUR: A 38-year-old businessman, who was abducted from a restaurant in Jalan Pandan Indah 1/23d, Ampang here yesterday, was later released by his abductors, believed to be over debt issues.

The incident had gone viral on Facebook. A video clip showed a group of men forcefully ordering the businessman to enter a white Toyota Vellfire.

A second video showed two motorcyclists tailing the Vellfire, while attempting to stop the speeding vehicle.

Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak revealed that the victim had since been released by his abductors in Klang the same day. He said police received a report on the abduction at 5.03pm yesterday.

"The businessman had gone to a restaurant alone, and shortly after that, several men pulled him out and forced him into a Toyota Vellfire.

"The victim shouted for help, but to no avail," he said in a statement today.

Farouk said the victim was present at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at 10.45pm yesterday.

"It is believed he was released by his abductors in Klang after the incident. He sustained injuries to his legs and face and sought treatment at the Ampang Hospital," he said.

He thanked members of the public who helped the victim.

"Police would like to advise the public to not take loans from unlicensed individuals."

The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.
