Bangladeshi man fined RM3,000 for trying to bribe cop [NSTTV]

IPOH: A Bangladeshi national was slapped with a RM3,000 fine today for attempting to bribe a policeman after he was caught riding a motorcycle without a helmet.

Khan Obaydul, 30, pleaded guilty to two charges framed under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and Section 214 of the Penal Code for the offence, of which the latter was offered as an alternative charge.

He was accused of offering a RM50 bribe to Sergeant Mohd Faizal Abdul Hadi in Jalan Kampung Muhibbah, Manjung to conceal his offence under Rule 4, Motorcycle (Helmet) Rules 1973 for riding a motorcycle without a helmet on May 11, last year at about 2pm.

He pleaded guilty to the alternative charge of offering gratification for the purpose to conceal an offence, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

Judge, M. Bakri Abd Majid sentenced Khan, the estate worker to an RM3,000 fine, in default of one-month imprisonment.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Maziyah Mansor prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
