45 immigrants arrested during raid in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested 45 people for not having valid documents during an operation at a market in Jalan Sinsuran here.

District deputy police chief Superintendent Kalsom Idris said police inspected 100 people and detained the 45 people when they failed to produce any identification document.

The 26 men and 19 women were aged between 20 and 50.

"All of them were taken to the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters for further action," she told reporters after the operation.

Kalsom said the operation, which started about 3pm, involved four officers and 27 members from the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters.

"The operation was jointly held with the People's Volunteer Corps, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, the National Registration Department and the Kota Kinabalu City Hall.

"This operation will be continued to prevent crime and to crack down on illegal immigrants in the city," said Kalsom.
