PJ police arrest man suspected of killing Rela personnel

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man to assist investigations into the murder of a 45-year-old Rela personnel in Kota Damansara on Saturday.

The 26-year-old suspect was picked up at 12.30am early Sunday, said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid.

The suspect was remanded for six days until Oct 14 to assist the police probe.

"We are looking for the second suspect who is still at large," he said, adding that police have seized clothes they believed one of the suspects was wearing at the time of the attack.

Mohamad Fakhrudin said initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred about 9.15pm on Saturday, after the victim reprimanded one of the suspects for being drunk. Both of them had earlier shared an elevator together.

"The victim and the two suspects stayed on different floors of the same flats. The victim was walking towards his flat when suddenly, the suspect returned with another man and attacked him," he said.

Mohamad Fakhrudin said the attackers used a helmet and a steel rod to hit the victim's head, causing him to lose consciousness. The suspects then fled the scene.

"A medical officer who arrived later declared the victim dead at 10.08pm. A forensics team combed the scene for evidence and recovered the helmet, rod and a lighter belonging to the suspects.

Police are looking for R.Magendran, 24 from Pelangi Damansara to facilitate investigations.

"Anyone with information on the case should contact the investigation officer, ASP Mohd Hafizee Ismail at 013-3587571 or the nearest police station," he added.
