Najib trying to have second bite at cherry to appoint QC

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak is still seeking the service of Queen's Counsel (QC) to represent him in his appeal over the 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

Najib's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said they would reach for the QC Jonathan Laidlaw's assistance if the former prime minister succeeded in his review application over the Federal Court's decision recently.

Najib was convicted of all seven charges of power abuse, criminal breach of trust and money laundering in relation to RM42 million of SRC International funds.

The then High Court Judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali had sentenced him to 12 years jail and RM210 million fine.

Since then, Najib has lost in his bid to overturn the conviction and sentence at the apex court and also failed in his attempts to introduce fresh evidence and also appoint a Queen's Counsel to represent him.

He is now serving his sentence at the Kajang Prison.
