Fiery crash: Lorry driver remanded for four days

KULAI: The lorry driver involved in a five-vehicle fiery crash that left two burnt to death at Km 45.7 south bound of the North-South Expressway near Sedenak here on Saturday night has been remanded for four days until this Thursday.

Kulai District Police Chief, Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow, said the 38-year-old was remanded from today to assist investigations under the Road Transport Act 1987.

In the meantime, he said, the identity of the second victim who was burnt to death in the accident was yet to be ascertained.

"We are ascertaining the identity of the second body," he said when contacted today.

One fatality was a Proton Wira passenger known as Nur Nazihah Kamalul Arifin, 28.

The fiery pile-up was believed to have been caused by the first lorry changing lanes from right to left to escape the congested expressway.

Nazihah's husband, Redzuan Jamil, 28, who escaped unhurt in the incident claimed there was a crash in the rear of his vehicle, whereupon he got out and found a lorry had crashed into three vehicles, including the car he was driving which was in the middle.
