SM Faisal domestic violence trial vacated

KUALA LUMPUR: The domestic violence trial involving businessman Datuk SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin and his ex-wife Emilia Hanafi was vacated today.

Lawyer Datuk Jagjit Singh, who is representing Faisal, told the magistrate's court that the lead defence counsel, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, was on medical leave due to an upper respiratory tract infection.

The court was scheduled to hear Emilia's sister, Elisa Nani, testifying as the sixth prosecution witness. Jagjit told the court that Akberdin wanted to cross-examine the witness himself.

No objection was recorded from deputy public prosecutor Zahida Zakaria.

Magistrate Nadia Othman fixed Nov 25 for re-mention.

SM Faisal is charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Emilia, 43, at a house in Desa Sri Hartamas, Brickfields, here, between 12.30pm and 4.30pm on Nov 22, seven years ago.
