GE15: Anwar demands apology, RM5 million from Razman for LGBT claim

KUALA LUMPUR: Perak Pas chief Razman Zakaria has seven days to respond to the letter of demand filed against him by Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, or he will face a lawsuit.

The letter dated yesterday was served to Razman via Anwar's counsel Messrs S.N. Nair & Partners, demanding he retract his statement made against Anwar and issue a public apology immediately.

The Perikatan Nasional Gunung Semanggol seat candidate, during his campaign at the Tebuk Pancur night market on Monday, alleged that Anwar was pursuing an LGBT agenda and wanted to legalise same-sex marriage.

He also alleged that DAP had a communist agenda and that Muslims in the country must not vote for its candidates.

"Our client deemed that the statements made were defamatory, libellous and slanderous, which is mala fide (carried out in bad faith), among other things (inter alia).

"Therefore, our client demands the defamatory statements and publication be retracted immediately and for you (Razman) to remove offensive and defamatory comments in response to the statement.

"Our client demands an unconditional apology, in a manner that will be approved by us, in papers and media of our client's choice.

"Our client also demands you to pay RM5 million for the serious injury you have caused to his reputation and to pay all legal costs from this matter," said the letter.

The letter stated that Razman now has seven days from Nov 8 to respond.

"If our client does not receive any satisfactory response within seven days, our instruction is to initiate legal action against you."

It was reported yesterday that Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said police have opened an investigation paper on the alleged defamatory and malicious remarks made by Razman.

He had said the investigation would be carried out under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
