11-year-old girl dies from alleged abuse in Kajang

KAJANG: An 11-year-old girl died after she was allegedly abused by her stepfather at their house in Taman Sri Ramal on Monday.

The girl had multiple injuries, including a ruptured intestine and head trauma. Her 53-year-old stepfather allegedly assaulted her in the absence of the girl's mother.

The abuse was said to have been going on for some time, escalated on Monday night.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said police received a call from a Serdang Hospital medical officer at about 12.39am informing them of an alleged child abuse-cum-death case.

"The medical officer said the patient was brought in by an ambulance at about 11.30pm to the Accident & Emergency Department, unconscious.

"All efforts to revive the unconscious girl at the Red Zone have failed. Doctors then declared that the girl had died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital," he said.

Zaid said a post-mortem today revealed that the girl had died of blunt-force trauma to the head and stomach, which caused her intestine to burst.

"The report also showed several other injuries and swelling on her chest, arms and buttock, believed to be from the abuse.

"Police arrested the suspect a few hours later at 2.25pm at the Serdang Hospital vicinity," he said.

During the preliminary investigation, he said the suspect had admitted to using his hands, legs and a pail to hit the child whenever she caused problems at home.

"We are investigating this case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and the suspect has already been remanded to facilitate investigations," he added.

Zaid urged those with any information about the case to contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Ray Erindra Raj at 019-6616640 or any nearest police station.
