MACC opens investigation paper on RM600 billion public funds issue

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed that an investigation paper has been opened on the allegation that RM600 billion public funds were misappropriated.

In a statement today, the anti-graft agency assured that investigations will be conducted thoroughly, transparently and professionally.

As such, MACC also urged those with information, evidence or documents related to the case to come forward to assist its probe.

It added that the agency could also send its officers to collect the needed documents or statements.

It was reported that MACC would summon at least three members of the previous Perikatan Nasional-led administration in relation to the case.

Sources told the New Straits Times the three are Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was then prime minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who was finance minister at the time, and then health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The RM600 billion was meant for funds during the Covid-19 pandemic and included money for Covid-19 vaccines.
