RM600b probe: MACC gets breakdown of govt money spent in 2020 and 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received preliminary information on the breakdown of money spent in 2020 and 2021 to aid its probe into the alleged mismanagement of RM600 billion in government funds.

MACC, in a statement today, said the investigation is currently focusing on RM92.5 billion in economic stimulus package funds spent during the period in relation to Covid-19 management.

"Preliminary investigations showed that RM92.5 billion involved government funds while RM437.5 billion were not from the government.

MACC said their focus would be trained on the RM92.5 billion.

"The Finance Ministry is providing more details on the breakdown. They will hand it over to the MACC by next week.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, prior to this, said MoF officials had confirmed that there was a "serious breach of procedure" involving the almost RM600 billion spent by the government during the administration of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin, in response, said he wasn't afraid of being investigated and maintained that everything was above board.
