Man charged with killing 9-year-old, abusing wife and another daughter [Updated]

KUALA LUMPUR: A 40-year-old man was charged in the magistrate's court today with killing his 9-year-old daughter.

Mohd Yasin Halik merely nodded when the charge, which was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction, was read to him before magistrate Wong Chai Sia this morning.

However, no plea was recorded from the accused.

He allegedly caused the victims' death at a house in Jalan Pudu on Dec 9 around 9pm.

The court then fixed Feb 21 next year for remention.

Deputy public prosecutor Sareeka Balakrishnan prosecuted, while the accused was not represented.

It was previously reported that police had arrested a man for murdering his daughter and burying her body along the roadside in Taman Dusun Bandar here. A post-mortem examination revealed that the girl had died of severe injuries to the abdomen due to blunt force trauma.

Yasin was also charged at the same court for causing physical injuries to a 41-year-old woman, who was the mother of the deceased, at the same house about 1am on Dec 8.

He was accused of pouring hot oil on the woman's buttocks.

The charge was framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments upon conviction.

The accused refused to enter any plea. The court then sentenced him to four months' jail, which started from his date of arrest on Dec 11.

He was also charged at the Sessions Court today, for causing physical injuries to a 5-year-old girl, by pouring hot oil on the girl's body.

The girl is the younger sister of the deceased, and also the accused's biological daughter.

Yasin committed the offence at the same house in about 12pm on Dec 1. The charge was framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 and 20 year's jail upon conviction.

The accused pleaded guilty when the charges were read out to him before Sessions Court judge Norina Zainol Abidin this morning.

The court fixed Jan 9 next year for sentencing.
