Husband and wife remand extended

KUALA LUMPUR: The remand against a couple who were allegedly responsible for the explosion that killed a cook, has been extended for another week.

Ampang Jaya police chief assistant commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the request to extend the remand was filed today and approved by the Ampang Magistrate's Court.

The 33-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife were first remanded on Jan 4 after they were arrested at a house in Serdang, Kedah following a raid by a Criminal Investigation Department team from the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters a day before.

In the 8.55pm incident on Dec 29 last year, a 28-year-old restaurant cook died after he checked a package left on his car.

It is learnt that the victim received a call, telling him to pick up the parcel left outside the restaurant where he worked at.

The parcel exploded when he touched it. Some onlookers took him to Ampang Hospital a car, but his injuries were severe and was pronounced dead at 9.45pm.
