Two security guards held for allegedly beating man to death

BANTING: Police arrested two security guards for allegedly beating a local man to death during a fight near a grocery shop in Olak Lempit, near here, last week.

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh said investigations found that the fight on Jan 11 broke out when the victim, a lorry attendant, was suspected of distributing drugs in the area at 10.45pm.

He said several people allegedly assaulted the 24-year-old victim with blunt objects before others who witnessed the beating reported the matter to the police.

"Upon arrival at the scene, police found the victim carrying a bag containing 10 packets of syabu weighing 3.93g, with an estimated value of RM2,000. The victim was taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital.

"On Monday, the hospital authorities said the victim died at 2.15am due to strong blows to the head," he said at a media conference here today.

Ahmad Ridhwan said following the incident, a team of police officers and personnel from the Kuala Langat Criminal Investigation Department tracked down the suspects and arrested a local man in Banting at 2.15am on Jan 13 and another local man in the same area on Monday.

He said one of the suspects had a criminal record related to drugs.

He said both security guards, aged 41 and 31, had been remanded for six days until Jan 23 and the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He said police were looking for more suspects.
