Syndicate busted, 42,000 litres of subsidised diesel seized

PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry crippled a diesel syndicate in a raid on an unnumbered premises in Jalan Kuari Sungai Long, Hulu Langat, yesterday, suspected of embezzling the subsidised fuel.

Ministry enforcement director-general Azman Adam said the raiding party found 42,000 litres of diesel and confiscated a one-tonne lorry, a motorised pump, hoses, flow meters and other equipment used for the illegal activity.

He said the team also detained a local man in his 30s along with three other foreigners caught in the act of transporting the fuel, with the seizure estimated at RM108,900.

"The premises owner also failed to show any valid documents regarding permission to deal with scheduled controlled goods (diesel) under the Control of Supplies Act 1961," he said here today.

Azman said investigations were underway to identify the individuals or companies involved in the distribution chain of the subsidised fuel.

He said any company involved would also be investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613) for freezing or confiscation of assets and property. - BERNAMA
