Security guard remanded to assist in death of man in Pulau Melaka

KOTA BARU: Police remanded a security guard in connection with the death of a man who was beaten up by a group of people near Pulau Melaka here last night.

The seven-day remand order, which ends on Feb 5, was obtained at the Kota Baru magistrate's court. The remand order against the 32-year-old security guard was obtained under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

In the 7pm incident, a man in his 20s died after being involved in a scuffle with several men in Pulau Melaka. It was learnt that before the brawl, the man had assaulted a female cook before going after a security guard of a religious school.

It is believed that the victim suffered from some form of mental disorder. At least 12 individuals, including students from a religious school, were detained by police to facilitate investigations.
