Woman charged with killing e-hailing driver

TAWAU: A woman was today charged at the Magistrate's Court here with murdering an e-hailing driver in an oil palm estate in Batu 5, Jalan Apas here, on Jan 13.

Nurima Juli, 33, nodded when the charge was read out before magistrate Mohd Dzul Elmi Yunus.

No plea was recorded as murder cases are under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, Nurima and a few other still at large are accused of murdering Nurman Bakaratu, 61, between 7.30pm and 10.30pm on Jan 13.

The charge carries a mandatory death penalty if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Syahnidzam Ahmad prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

The court set March 6 for mention while waiting for requisition, chemical report and autopsy report.

It was reported that the accused, together with eight police officers and personnel, were detained and remanded to facilitate investigation into the murder case.
