Tawau e-hailing driver's murder: Remand of eight cops extended by a week

TAWAU: Police have obtained a one week remand extension against eight cops - including four seniors officers, suspected of being involved in the murder of an e-hailing driver in an oil palm plantation on Jan 13.

Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus allowed the remand extension following proceedings held at the Tawau district police headquarters here today.

The suspects had already been held in remand for one week prior to this for investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah yesterday said police believed the murder case was motivated by jealousy.

He said three civilians had also been detained to assist in investigations.

"Police are collecting evidence and taking statements before handing them over to the deputy public prosecutor for further action," he told reporters yesterday.

The deceased's wife, 33-year-old Nurima Juli, 33 who is unemployed, was charged with murder earlier this week.

She was charged with murdering Nurman Bakaratu, 61, in an oil palm plantation near Jalan Anjur Juara, Jalan Apas, Batu 5, here between 7.30pm and 9pm on Jan 13. --Bernama
