Jobless man charged with abusing girlfriend's 6-year-old daughter

IPOH: A jobless man was charged at the Sessions Court here today with physically abusing his girlfriend's daughter aged six-year-old.

The accused, Muhammad Aiman Razali, 25, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before judge, Azizah Ahmad.

According to the charge sheet, the former lorry driver was accused of ill-treating the six-year-old girl causing her to suffer from physical injuries.

The offence was allegedly committed at the fourth floor of Cherry Apartment here at 1am on Nov 25, 2022 and at 1am on Feb 14, 2023.

The charge falls under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail of up to 20 years, or both, if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor K. Darinee prosecuted, while lawyer Dayang Nor Emilia Azman Shah represented the accused.

The court allowed him bail of RM6,000 with one surety and set Mac 22 for mention.

The case came to light when the girl had told her 52-year-old grandfather that she was abused, who lodged a police report last Tuesday.

It is learnt that the girl's face was swollen, believed to have been hit by the man who also lives in the same apartment.
