Azam Baki: MACC probe on Menara KL case completed, waiting for decision from A-G

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigation over the acquisition and takeover of Menara Kuala Lumpur (KL Tower) has been completed.

Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the investigation paper had been referred to the Attorney-General.

"The investigation of the Menara KL case has been completed and the investigation paper has been submitted to the Attorney General. We are waiting for the decision," he said at a press conference today.

On Jan 7, two senior directors of a company with the title "Datuk" were remanded for four days to assist in the investigation related to the acquisition and takeover of KL Tower.

The two are a managing director of the company who was allegedly involved in taking over Syarikat Menara KL and a businessman who is believed to be the "middleman" in the acquisition.

It was reported that the outcome of the MACC probe found that kickbacks in the form of hundreds of thousands of ringgit and a luxury watch, said to be a gift to "superiors" exchanged hands in the acquisition.

The takeover went viral on social media when people questioned TM's decision through its subsidiary, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd, to transfer their full ownership to Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd last October.
