Police hunt suspect in robbery case

KOTA KINABALU: Police are tracking a man who was involved in a robbery that caused injuries to a restaurateur.

During the early morning incident on Feb 22, the 65-year-old man was tailed by the robber when he was heading back to his restaurant at Segama Complex from a nearby market.

The suspect grabbed the victim's neck and placed a knife on the latter's left chest.

As the victim was trying to escape by punching the suspect, however, the restaurateur suffered injuries on his lower left rib.

His wife, who was cooking at the restaurant near the incident, shouted for help after she saw the commotion and managed to get a man's attention to head to the scene.

The suspect then took the victim's wallet and fled.

The victim received three stitches at the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE I).

District police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah confirmed the incident, and the police are currently locating the suspect.

He said, based on information, the suspect was thin and about 165cm tall.

"Those who have information related to this case are to contact any nearby police station to help in the investigation.

"The case is being investigated according to Section 394 of the Penal Code, which is robbery that causes injury," he said.
