Two friends plead not guilty to threatening bus driver

KULAI: Two friends claimed trial at the Magistrate Court here today on charges of criminal threat against a bus driver last month.

The accused, S Hariprasat, 32, and M Kali, 42, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out by a court interpreter before Magistrate Azureen Sahira Sauffee Afandi.

Based on the charge sheet, the two accused were charged together for making criminal threats with the intent of causing injury and also with the intent of causing fear to Zaihan Zainon, 32.

The incident allegedly took place at Jalan Batu 21, Kulai Besar here, at about 8.15 am, on Feb 24.

For that act, they are charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which was read together with Section 34 of the same act and carries a prison sentence of up to two years or with a fine or both, if convicted.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohammad Dzulkhairi Saat offered bail of RM10,000 for each accused, but this was opposed by lawyer Amarpreet Singh who represented Hariprasat.

He said his client, who is also a lorry driver, has a wife and parents to support, while Kali, who does not have a permanent job and was unrepresented, said he had suffered a heart attack.

The court allowed each accused to be bailed at RM2,500 with one surety.
