Construction worker fined RM2,400 for stealing woman's undergarment

PETALING JAYA: A man has been slapped with a RM2,400 fine at the magistrate's court here, today, for stealing a woman's undergarments last month.

Liew Chee Hong, 45, pleaded guilty to the offence after it was read to him before Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah this morning.

The court also ordered the accused to serve three months in jail if he fails to pay his fine.

According to the charge sheet, Liew was accused of stealing two pieces of undergarments belonging to a 23-year-old victim, at a house located in Bandar Sri Damansara, here, on Feb 23.

The charges were framed under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine, upon conviction.

Earlier, the accused pleaded for a lighter sentence as he has no fixed income working as a construction worker and he is caring for his grandfather.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Maryam Jamilah Md Kamal prosecuted.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said that the accused was arrested on Feb 23, following a report lodged on the same day.
