Rohingya boy drowns in quarry pond, brother still missing

SUNGAI PETANI: A 4-year-old Rohingya boy drowned while taking a dip in a quarry pond with his 6-year-old brother at Kampung Permatang Kendondong in Tikam Batu last night.

Mamod Shukor Belal Hussain's body was found this morning, and his brother, Muhammad Nazeri, is still missing.

Tikam Batu Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Syukri Hashim said the department was alerted to the incident by the police at 11.43pm yesterday when they found the boys' clothes at the scene.

"A search-and-rescue (SAR) operation was launched at 8am. The body of the 4-year-old victim was found about 400 metres from the pond."

The SAR operation to locate the second victim is ongoing.
