Remand extended for Perlis cop in fatal shooting of pregnant wife

KANGAR: Police have obtained a five-day remand extension against a lance-corporal who shot dead his pregnant wife in Kampung Bendang Baru, Simpang Empat, on last Sunday.

Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the remand extension was granted by Magistrate Siti Nor Hasliza Md Ali at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) here today.

"The suspect is still warded at the hospital to undergo clinical health and psychiatric examinations.

"We are also awaiting for the victim's autopsy report," he said.

The suspect, who is attached to the state police headquarter's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, was detained after fatally shooting his wife Safsufarnisya Salleh, 26.

The incident took place their home in Kampung Bendang Baru, Simpang Empat here, after the suspect came home from work.

It was reported that the suspect had used his service weapon to fire five shots at the victim from a close range, with at least one bullet hitting his wife's left eye.

The victim, who was five-months' pregnant with their first child, died on the spot.
