'I want to visit my wife's grave', says policeman charged with murdering pregnant wife

KANGAR: A lance corporal charged with the murder of his pregnant wife made an emotional plea at the Magistrate's Court here today.

"I just have one thing to say, I want to visit my wife's grave," Mohamad Nizarman Hassim, 27, told the court's policeman as he was led out from the stand moments after being charged.

Nizarman, who appeared calm throughout the proceedings, said he understood the charge read to him before Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor.

The accused was charged with killing his wife , Safsufarnisya Salleh, 26, in their home in Kampung Bendang Baru, Simpang Empat, between 6.45am and 8.50am on March 5.

State Prosecution Director Mohd Nordin Ismail conducted the prosecution while the accused was not represented.

Nordin requested the court's approval to send the accused for a month-long mental evaluation at a psychiatric hospital.

Ana Rozana granted the application and fixed April 14 as the mention date pending the accused's psychiatric evaluation report.

Earlier, heavily guarded by police, Nizarman arrived at the court in a police truck at 8.50am.

It was reported that the accused, attached with the state police headquarters' Narcotics Investigation Division shot dead his wife, Safsufarnisya, who was five-months pregnant with their first child.

The incident occurred after the accused, who hails from Setiu, Terengganu, had returned home after finishing his shift.

It was reported that the accused had suddenly whipped out his police-issued Walther P99 pistol and fired more than five shots at his wife in close range, killing the victim instantly.
