Decomposed body found by river bank

KUCHING: The body of a man without any identification documents was found on the banks of Sungai Salak here yesterday.

Acting Kuching district police chief, Superintendent Merbin Lisa said that police received information from a member of the public regarding the discovery of the body at around 1.21pm yesterday.

Following the information received, a team of personnel from the Kuching District police headquarters (IPD) were despatched to the scene to carry out investigations.

"As soon as the team arrived on location, they found that the body was already decomposing.

"Based on the condition, the deceased is believed to have been dead for more than 72 hours," he said in a statement last night.

Merbin said that the body had been sent to the forensics department of Hospital Umum Sarawak (HUS) for post-mortem to identify the cause of death.

"Members of the public who have lost a family member within the period of more than 72 hours are urged to come to the nearest police station to aid in investigations.

"We (police) also advise members of the public to not make any assumption or speculation as the case is still being investigated and for now police have classified the case as sudden death," he said.
