Arau man remanded over abuse of stepdaughter

ARAU: Police today obtained a five-day remand order against a 34-year-old man to assist investigations into an abuse case involving his stepdaughter last week.

A source said the suspect was arrested at his home in Arau yesterday.

The source said a kindergarten teacher found injuries on the 6-year-old girl last Wednesday.

"The teacher asked the child about the bruise,s believed to have been caused by whipping,

and the girl told him that he was hit by 'Abi', referring to her stepfather.

"The teacher then contacted the girl's mother who claimed that she and her daughter had been physically abused by the suspect," added the source.

The teacher subsequently alerted the Social Services Department (JKM) through the Kasih hotline and was advised to lodge a police report.

Arau police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi when contacted confirmed the arrest.

He said the suspect was being investigated under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Children Act 2001.
