Najib arrives at Palace of Justice, greeted by supporters [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has arrived at Palace of Justice, here, thirty minutes ahead of today's proceedings where the Federal Court would decide if his application to review his conviction for misappropriating SRC International funds should be allowed.

The jailed former prime minister was greeted by about 100 of his supporters who lined up along the road leading to the main entrance of the courthouse.

They had gathered there from 7.30am and waved when Najib was escorted in by prison guards.

Meanwhile, Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and children were also sighted at court ahead of today's proceeding. Rosmah, clad in green outfits, was sighted walking into the courthouse around 8.50am

Najib is seeking a review of the Federal Court's decision to reject his application to adduce fresh evidence relating to the then High Court judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

He is also seeking a review of the court's decision to dismiss his bid to postpone his appeal hearing as well as the decision to recuse Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.

Another review being sought is of the court's decision on Aug 23, last year, to affirm his conviction and sentence.

A five-member bench led by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli, Federal Court judges Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Datuk Rhodzariah Bujang, Datuk Nordin Hassan and Court of Appeal judge Datuk Abu Bakar Jais are expected to deliver their judgment later this morning..

Najib, 70, was found guilty of abuse of power in relation to a RM4 billion loan given by Retirement Fund (Inc) (KWAP) to SRC between August 2011 and March 2012.

He was also convicted of criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million of SRC funds between Dec 26, 2014 and Feb 10, 2015.

For this, Najib was sentenced to 12 years' jail and fined RM210 million by the High Court, with the jail sentence and fine being upheld by the Court of Appeal on Dec 8, 2021, and further affirmed by the Federal Court on Aug 23, last year.

If the former Umno president's review is allowed, Najib is expected to be released on bail and there would be a re-hearing either at the apex court or a re-trial at the High Court.

If it is dismissed then it would be considered the conviction and sentence is affirmed and he would continue to serve his sentence. He has been in jail for 221 days including today.

Over 120 journalists and photographers have descended to the Palace of Justice here to cover the outcome.
