Man stabs wife to death in fit of jealous rage

KOTA KINABALU: A man has been arrested by the police in Kepayan here for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in a fit of jealousy.

District Police Deputy Chief Superintendent Kalsom Idris said the incident occurred on Saturday at around 1.30pm while the victim, a 38-year-old woman, was helping her sister sell vegetables at a stall on Jalan Pahlawan.

She said the suspect, a foreigner, stabbed his wife multiple times in the back before fleeing the scene.

"The public alerted the police, and the victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2.21pm," she said when contacted today.

Kalsom said police arrested the suspect on Jalan Kepayan at 8.30pm, based on information gathered by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters.

"The police managed to solve this case within 24 hours, and the motive of the incident is believed to be jealousy.

"The police also seized a knife at the scene believed to have been used by the suspect during the incident," she said.

Kalsom added that the suspect is currently in custody for further investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
