Police nab suspect for stealing car belonging to former Customs officer

KOTA BARU: Police yesterday arrested a suspect who stole a Proton Saga belonging to a former Customs officer about one hour after receiving a report on the incident.

Kota Baru police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the 39-year-old suspect was detained at Jalan Kampung Sungai Keladi about 3pm.

He added that police had received a report on the incident about 2pm yesterday.

"In the report, the victim stated that the incident happened about 11.40am while fishing at an irrigation canal near Sungai Budor.

"According to the victim, an unknown person had approached him before pushing him, causing him to fall on the ground.

"The suspect then took the victim's belongings before fleeing from the scene in the victim's Proton Saga," he said in a statement.

Following the report, he said a police team managed to arrest the suspect, who was hiding in some bushes at Jalan Kampung Sungai Keladi, about 1km from where he had stolen the car, with the victim's essential belongings.

"The jobless man who tested positive for methamphetamine is a person of interest for a case involving a stolen bag taken from the Muhammadi Mosque in Kota Baru," he added.

He said the suspect had been remanded for seven days to assist police investigation into the case.
