SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam police have destroyed contraband and other seized items from 33 cases, including equipment used for cryptocurrency mining worth RM1 million.
Shah Alam OCPD Assistant Commissioner. Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the exhibits were destroyed as the cases reported between 2018 and 2022 have been concluded by the courts.
The contraband seized included 500 bottles of liquor, 690 cartons of beer, 280,000 cigarettes, 2000 pirated DVDs, and 550 bitcoin mining machines.
"We have received orders from the courts and the deputy public prosecutor to destroy the seized items as the cases have been heard and decided by the courts." Mohd Iqbal told reporters here today.
He said the items had to be destroyed to free up storage space in the district police headquarters' evidence room.
"Seized items from 2023 can only be destroyed after the cases have been cleared," he added.
