Logistics company remanded over frozen meat smuggling cover up bribes

ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained the operator of a logistic company suspected of bribing law enforcement officers to cover up frozen meat smuggling activity from a neighbouring country.

According to a source, the suspect in his 40s, was detained about 11pm yesterday when he turned up at the Kedah MACC office here to assist the investigations.

The source said magistrate Nurshahida Abdul Rahim granted the graft buster agency a three-day remand order against the suspect beginning today when he was presented to the magistrate's court this morning.

"The man is suspected of masterminding frozen meat smuggling activity at the Malaysia-Thailand international border in Bukit Kayu Hitam since early this year," he said.

State MACC director Rosley Mohamad Satar confirmed the arrest when contacted.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 16(b)(B) of the MACC Act 2009 but declined to elaborate.
