KUALA LUMPUR: The police have refuted a report that another suspect was arrested over the attack on national footballer, Faisal Halim.
Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said facts on the case would be only released by the police.
"Do not legitimise information from unofficial sources," he told reporters after visiting the scene of the acid attack, which left Faisal with fourth-degree burns.
Shuhaily said the police have lifted fingerprints left behind by the suspects in the case.
He said a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the suspects touched several surfaces in the area.
"We have extracted several fingerprints, we are still waiting for the analysis of the prints," he said.
On Sunday, two men on a motorcycle threw acid on Faisal outside a mall in Kota Damansara, Selangor.
Initially, one suspect was arrested before being released. Another suspect was then arrested and remanded for five days.
However, yesterday, Shuhaily said the police were still investigating if the second suspect, who has seven criminal records, was involved in the attack.
Police are also probing two separate attacks on two separate national footballers, Akhyar Rashid and Safiq Rahim.
Last week, Akhyar was assaulted and robbed by two men in Terengganu, while Safiq's car was vandalised by two men in Johor.
