KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has secured remand orders for 13 individuals involved in a vape smuggling syndicate allegedly responsible for bringing in nearly RM8 million worth of vapes.
Six Customs Department officers and six civilians, including four company directors, have been remanded for four days.
A five-day remand order has also been issued for another company director.
The remand orders were granted by magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin following an application by MACC at the Putrajaya magistrate's court today.
Another company director has been released on MACC bail pending further investigations.
The remands are part of the MACC's "Op Airways," an operation aimed at dismantling the vape smuggling syndicate.
Meanwhile, media representatives accompanied MACC personnel on a raid at a warehouse in Salak South Garden here.
Two individuals, believed to be company directors, were seen being escorted through the premises under heavy guard by MACC's Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad.
Investigators conducted thorough checks on hundreds of boxes at the warehouse, revealing thousands of vapes upon opening several consignments.
The vapes were found in various flavours, including grape, guava, and herbal tea.
During the inspection, one of the authorities asked one of the directors, "Where is this from?" The director responded that the items were from China.
