Najib promises more houses for second generation Felda settlers

PEKAN: The government will build more houses nationwide for second generation Felda settlers to compensate the declining number of first generation settlers.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that this is necessary as the first generation settlers currently only make up one-third of the total number of settlers in the country.

Two-thirds, he said was the second generation settlers followed by a third from an emerging third generation.

"We have plans to build more houses nationwide for second generation (Felda settlers).

"We are an ageing population. In 2015, around 9.2 per cent (of the population) comprised of those over 60.

"By 2040, it will be 20 per cent," he said.

He noted that this brings about the need for government policy to emphasize on increase of productivity including that of Felda's.

He was speaking during a breaking fast event with settlers of Felda Chini 1 here this evening.
