Blueprint provides new confidence for Indian community, says MIC president

KUALA LUMPUR: The establishment of Malaysian Indian Blueprint, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in April, has given rise to new confidence among the Indian community in the country.

This confidence, MIC president Datuk Seri S Subramaniam said, has now "incarnated" into support for the Barisan Nasional-led government as well as the prime minister.

"Under the blueprint, there are more programmes that have been fixed for the next 10 years and this provides a new confidence in the Indian community and we can see this confidence being incarnated into support.

"Due to this, we will continue our effort in giving explanation to the Indian community so that they will continue to believe in us.

"Of course there will be certain quarters who will belittle the announcements made by the government. However, by giving explanation, I firmly believe that the Indian community will continue to have confidence in us," he said during the Deepavali open house held at Batu Caves here today.

Also present were Najib, former MIC president Tun S Samy Vellu, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong and MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

When asked on the upcoming 2018 Budget, expected to be announced by Najib on Oct 27, Subramaniam said the MIC has submitted several proposals for the government's consideration.

"We are hoping the prime minister will take a look at the suggestions so that we can achieve everything that we have set under the blueprint."
