Eco World Foundation donates RM20,500 worth of furniture to SJK(C) Convent Datuk Keramat

GEORGE TOWN: Eco World Foundation today donated 120 sets of students desks, chairs and six units of steel cupboards to SJK(C) Convent Datuk Keramat to assist the school in creating a conducive learning environment for its pupils.

The RM20,500 worth of furniture was given after the foundation received application for assistance from the school after their previous furniture’s were damaged during the major flood last year.

The brand new furniture’s was delivered to the school at the end of December last year before the start of the new school term.

At the handing over ceremony held today at the school, Eco World Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the organisation strongly believed in education as an investment for the country’s future.

“A good education has the power to change someone’s life for the better. This is the main reason why we are focused on providing educational assistance to schools that require help.

“The assistance given is inline with our objective to invest in education and help in any way possible,” he said.

Lee also said that the foundation adhered to stringent quality control to ensure safety and durability to withstand the rigours of constant use.

Since its inception, the foundation has donated furniture and educational aid to various schools throughout the country including Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

To date, it has spent RM550,000 on replacing school furniture and providing other educational facilities.

In addition, Eco World Foundation also spends between RM4 million to RM5 million annually for its Students Aid Programme (SAP) by providing 3,000 underprivileged students with basic needs including uniforms, text books, educational apparatus and tuition fees.

About RM1,200 is spent on each primary student while RM1,300 for respective secondary students.

“This is so we can ease the burden of the parents.

“Despite Eco World being a business entity, we want to show that we also care for the community and the students through the programmes,” he added.

Also present were Eco World North General Manager Chan Soo How, foundation's chief executive officer Capt (Rtd) Datuk Liew Siong Sing, SJK(C) Convent Datuk Keramat headmaster Yeap Kooi Ean and the school's Parent-Teacher Association chairman Loo Heok Hoong.

After the ceremony, Lee attended the closing ceremony of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project at the SJK (T) Ramakrishna & Sri Ramakrishna Ashram.

Under the project, held over three weeks in April, 30 Eco World staff together with its General Manager Mr Chan Soo How planted trees, erected the fencing and undertook landscaping and cleaning of the school grounds.

The project cost about RM30,000 with voluntary services being provided by EcoWorld staff.

The CSR project is to promote and encourage eco-friendly concepts and projects in the school and among the students.
