Fun-filled night awaits Klang Valley revellers

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian and foreign visitors can usher in 2020 by taking part in activities that have been lined up on the last day of 2019 in the Klang Valley.

For starters, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry with the Federal Territories Ministry and Communications and Multimedia Ministry will organise a New Year’s countdown event at Dataran Merdeka.

Ambang 2020 @ Kuala Lumpur will kick off at 10am and conclude on New Year’s Day at 12.30am. It will be launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The highlights of the events are the Visit Malaysia 2020 light show and the “Extravaganza Malaysia Time Capsule” concert by Istana Budaya, held in conjuction with the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign.

Exhibitions, demonstrations, a cultural hunt game, traditional cooking shows and traditional dance shows will be held during the day.

People were advised to use public transport as major roads will be closed for the event.

KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd will usher in 2020 at the Esplanade in KLCC Park on New Year’s Eve.

Set under the night sky with the Petronas Twin Towers as the backdrop, a musical extravaganza awaits. It will feature performances by DJ Aida, dancers and Malaysian talent, such as Azlan and The Typewriter, Atilia, Elvira Arul, Noryn Aziz, Siti Sarah, Hazama, Ismail Izzani, Shalma Eliana and Tasha Aleia.

The three-hour celebration will begin at 9pm, and will end with a musical fireworks display at the stroke of midnight.

For those who want to welcome 2020 from a lofty height, Menara Kuala Lumpur will organise the “New Year's Eve 2020 @ KLTower” event at its Observation Deck and Sky Deck located 300m above ground starting 9pm.

For adults, tickets cost RM115 for the Sky Deck and RM79 for the Observation Deck. For children, tickets cost RM79 for the Sky Deck and RM70 for Observation Deck.

Menara Kuala Lumpur will host another event, “Countdown Fiesta @ KL” at its Tower Terrace. Admission is free and starts at 7.30pm.

Those with smaller children can opt for the KidZania Kuala Lumpur, with its “Friends and Family New Year Countdown” event, where families can watch fireworks at the stroke of midnight.

At KidZania, children can roleplay as firemen, painters and police officers. They can also participate in several activities with prizes and lucky draws.

Advance tickets for KidZania (bought before Dec 30) will cost RM100 for four people, or RM35 for a single ticket. Tickets on event day (Dec 31) will cost RM50 per person.

Those who prefer funnier company can catch the New Year’s Eve Show with Harith Iskander at Publika Mall starting at 9pm till midnight.

The Mutiara Damansara Commercial Centre, comprising the IPC Shopping Centre, the Curve and eCurve, will ring in the New Year with a night of musical events.

The night will see performances by The Colours, Man Bai, Syafeek Ikhwan, Geraldine Gan, Nama, Sarasara Akustika and Anak Seni Warisan, and will end with a fireworks display. Festivities begin at 8pm and admission is free.
