Dr Noor Hisham: Stick to SOPs, refrain from visits during Raya

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry urged Muslims celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri to postpone visits and refrain from visiting cemeteries.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this includes interstate traveling, which could cause the Covid-19 to spread to other areas, especially the green zones.

"This year, the whole world will celebrate Aidilfitri in a different way. Concerned about the risk of Covid-19 transmission, governments in countries affected by the pandemic have taken various approaches in allowing Muslims to celebrate the festival in a safe manner.

"As previously mentioned, celebrate this year's Hari Raya with your families at home. If Malaysians have been accustomed to celebrating the festivity openly, this year we will be celebrating in a private manner in our own homes with family members living under one roof.

"We need to learn from the Pengerang Cluster (where the Covid-19 spread occurred due to interstate traveling) and also the Rembau Sub-Cluster (caused by visiting relatives)."

The Health Ministry, he said, would like to remind the public on the National Security Council's SOP that the number of family members under one roof should not exceed 20 individuals in a day.

This, however he said depended on the space or area of the house, where social distancing and good hygiene must be observed at all times.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham, in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message, thanked the frontliners especially Muslims who will be working throughout the festive period.

"The Health Ministry would like to wish Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all the Muslims in the country.

"To the non-Muslim, happy holiday and those who will be working throughout the celebration, I would like to thank you for all the dedications you showed for the country.

"We hope that the frontliners who will be working on the first, second and third day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri would be patient and together with all our sacrifices, we will break the Covid-19 chain in the country," he said.
