8,381 Malaysians to continue mandatory quarantine at home

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 8,381 Malaysians who have been placed under mandatory quarantine at designated centres will continue the process at home.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all of them have undergone swab tests and tested negative for Covid-19 before being allowed to return home.

He said yesterday was the last day of operation for quarantine centres and Malaysians returning home from abroad would be told to observe mandatory 14-day quarantine at their respective homes.

"They will be screened upon their arrival and will be allowed to go home afterwards. Those found positive will be brought to the hospital while the rest must observe the 14-day quarantine at home.

"They must install the MySejahtera application for monitoring purposes; and they will be slapped with compound if they violated the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the quarantine period," he said at the daily press conference, here, today.

Ismail Sabri added thaty if the result of the swab test could not be obtained within a few hours, the returnees would be sent to quarantine centres while waiting for the results.

Since April 3, a total of 51,422 Malaysians returned from abroad and have undergone the 14-day mandatory stay at designated quarantine centres.

As of today, 41,817 have completed their quarantine and allowed to return home.

On another matter, Ismail Sabri said food delivery services were now allowed to operate till midnight during Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), starting today.

He said other services allowed to operate till midnight included food outlets and convenience stores.

During the earlier stages of the MCO and Conditional MCO, shops and deliveries could only operate until 8pm and 10pm respectively.
