Students urged to adhere to SOPs when schools reopen on June 24

PUTRAJAYA: Students are advised to wear masks and practice social distancing when they return to school on June 24.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said pupils are also urged not to gather at the canteen during recess, but instead tuck into packed lunches in their respective classrooms to curb Covid-19 infection.

"Students who show Covid-19 symptoms are encouraged to wear face masks, besides practicing social distancing and frequent hand washing. If they can comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), infection in schools can be reduced by 65 or 70 per cent.

"We really hope that the students comply with the SOPs," he said at the daily Covid-19 press conference here.

Dr Noor Hisham said he also hopes that the ministry will continue to improve the SOPs based on the experience gained from schools reopening.

On the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), he said more sectors will be allowed to resume operations and through this, the ministry would be able to detect whether Covid-19 cases increase.

"And education is one of the sectors that we allowed to reopen. We will see how best we can learn from this experience and improve from time to time.

"When we look at the set-up, we are quite happy with the arrangement being done and this is something that we can improve upon," he said.

On June 10, Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin announced that Form Five, Form Six, Vocational and Malaysian Higher Islamic Religious Certificate (STAM) schools nationwide will reopen beginning June 24.
