Covid-19: Latest Sivagangga cluster case participated in Raya activities [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry recorded two new Covid-19 positive cases as of 12pm today, bringing the total to 9,001 since the pandemic struck Malaysia.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the two new cases were local transmissions.

One of the cases is linked to Kedah's Persons Under Investigation (PUI) Sivagangga Cluster while the other is an asymptomatic college student in Labuan who was randomly screened and admitted to the Labuan Hospital.

The new case in the PUI Sivagangga Cluster is Case 9,000 who is a regular customer at the nasi kandar restaurant in Kedah, said Dr Noor Hisham.

"He did a Rapid Test Kit Antibody at a private clinic on July 27 and the results returned negative at that time.

"However, on July 31 he came down with a fever and cough but he did not inform the district health office or the health clinic for treatment.

"Only a day after being involved in Hari Raya Aidiladha activities did he notify that he is a close contact to the index case.

"A Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction test (RT-PCR) screening was conducted and he was found positive of Covid-19.

"He has been admitted to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for treatment," said Noor Hisham in a press conference today.

There are now total of 21 positive cases in the PUI Sivagangga Cluster, he added.

A total of 425 individuals have been screened, of which 362 are negative while 42 more are still awaiting test results.

Dr Noor Hisham urged the public against concealing any important information such as their contact with Covid-19 positive cases and come forward to inform the authorities.

"This is a social responsibility that we must have in each of us so we can collectively curb the spread of Covid-19," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also said there were no new deaths and zero import cases today.

There is one positive case that is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit but does not require breathing assistance.
