Covid-19: Penang records three new cases

GEORGE TOWN: Penang today recorded three more positive Covid-19 cases linked to Kedah's Tawar cluster, bringing the tally to 10 since Aug 7.

The state had for the past three months enjoyed 'green' status until the emergence of new clusters.

Today's cases were reported in the northeast district, bring the infection tally in the district alone to five.

The remaining four districts also reported positive Covid-19 cases with two cases in the Seberang Prai Tengah district with one case each in the southwest, Seberang Prai Selatan and Seberang Prai Utara districts.

According to the state Health Department's Facebook page, Penang has recorded a total of 132 positive Covid-19 cases to date with one death.

Of the total, 10 are active cases while the remaining have since recovered.

The department advised the people to continue to strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) such as maintaining a high level of hygiene, physical distancing, wearing face masks in public places, and prevent any form of gathering.

Komtar, the state's tallest building, was lit up in yellow at night to mark active Covid-19 cases in the state.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow called on Penangites to remain calm and continue their daily activities under the new normal following active Covid-19 cases in the state.

He said that the active cases were linked to Kedah's Sivagangga and Tawar clusters as well as Perak's Kurau cluster and did not originate in Penang.
