Six new Covid-19 cases today

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's new daily Covid-19 cases returned to a single digit after the Health Ministry reported six new cases as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brought the cumulative total cases in the country to 9,360.

Four of the total new infections detected by the ministry, he said, were imported cases involving non-citizens permitted to enter the country from Indonesia and Syria.

Dr Noor Hisham said one of the two local transmission cases was detected from the MV Glen cluster. The other local transmission case was detected in Pahang.

"The latest confirmed case from the MV Glen cluster is the wife of a positive Covid-19 patient from the same cluster.

"She was identified through active case detection and close contacts tracing conducted by the ministry," he said in a statement today.

To date, there are three confirmed cases detected from the 58 people screened in connection with the cluster.

From the total people screened, 16 test results came back negative and the ministry was still waiting for the outcome of 16 others.

"A total of 153 active cases are being treated at healthcare facilities across the country.

"Four Covid-19 patients are being treated at the intensive care units, in which, three of them require breathing assistance," Dr Noor Hisham said.

Four patients have been discharged from the hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,079.

The Covid-19 death toll in the country remained at 128 after no fatalities were reported to the ministry.
