8.45pm: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) wins 36 seats, one seat away from a simple majority as of 8.40pm.

8.30pm: Warisan Plus' Jannie Lasimbang is leading in Kapayan with 11,643 votes, BN's Lu Yen Tung is far behind with 1,502 votes.

Salleh Said Keruak wins Usukan - unofficial.

Warisan Plus wins Sulabayan, Senallang, Bugaya. Upko president defeated in Kiulu - unofficial.

8.01pm: Sabah DAP is now leading in six out of the seven state seats the party is contesting in the 16th state election. The seats are Likas, Kapayan, Tanjong Papat, Elopura and Sri Tanjong.

8.00pm: DAP's Luyang candidate Ginger Phoong announces that he has secured 14,342 votes as of 7.30pm.

"I have secured more than half of the total votes and achieved majority. Therefore, humbly and full of gratitude, I announce my victory. I am proud to be re-elected as a representative, I am aware of the importance and huge mandate. Based on democratic spirit, my team and I will work hard to serve the people of Luyang," he said in a statement.

7.30pm: Umno Youth Chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki tweeted that BN candidate Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy has won the Tanjung Batu state seat based on unofficial counts.

7.10pm: BN's Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin is leading the race for the Lamag state seat, securing 55.47 per cent of the votes counted so far. Closely trailing behind is Warisan Plus' Mohd Ismail Ayub.

6.15pm: Early unofficial results see PKR taking the lead in the Sook state seat, while Upko leads in Nabawan.

Over in Kiulu, UPKO President Wilfred Madius Tangau is trailing behind the PBS incumbent, Joniston Bangkuai, who is purported to have won 73 per cent of ballots counted so far at the SK Tanginambur and SK Poring polling centres.

Early counts suggest that DAP candidates for the Luyang, Kapayan, Tanjong Papat and Sri Tanjong seats, are reportedly trailing behind their rivals.

DAP however has taken the lead in the Elopura state seat, with incumbent Calvin Chong reportedly securing 80.83 per cent of the votes counted so far, with his opponent from BN-MCA Chan Boon Thian securing 15 per cent of the votes.

In the Kapayan state seat, BN-MCA's Lu Yen Ting, with a 52.91 per cent of the votes tallied so far, has taken a wide lead over DAP's Jannie Lasimbang, who has only managed to garner 18.61 per cent of the votes.

6.00pm: In Sindumin, Warisan Plus candidate, Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob moves ahead with 165 votes, followed by BN's Sani Miasin with 67 votes as at 5.16pm, for the SK Long Pasia polling stream.

5.15pm: The voting process for the Sabah state election concluded at 5pm today when all polling centres officially closed. Voter turnout as at 3pm was at 58 per cent according to the Election Commission (EC).
