1Utama shut down over Covid-19 outbreaks

KUALA LUMPUR: 1Utama shopping mall has been ordered closed starting Sunday (Oct 11) after several of its workers and a patron tested positive for the coronavirus.

A hostel housing employees of Tropicana Corporation Bhd in Petaling Jaya was also ordered shut.

Petaling district officer Johary Anuar said the closures were ordered to facilitate close contact screening and disinfection operations.

"As the Petaling district Disaster Management Committee chairman, I announce the closure of a shopping complex and a (workers' hostel) here due to Covid-19 outbreaks at the (two) premises.

"The shopping complex is 1Utama shopping mall in Bandar Utama, which to date has registered four confirmed cases involving three staff members and a patron.

"The (hostel is) in Tropicana Petaling Jaya, where five employees of Tropicana Corporation Bhd have tested positive," he said in a statement today.

Johary also urged those who visited 1Utama's Parkson Elite Cosmetics and Fragrance Department between Sept 30 and Oct 7, as well as Mac City outlet between Sept 25 and Sept 30, to come forward for Covid-19 tests.

"The Petaling district health office will be conducting Covid-19 tests at 1Utama on Oct 14 and Oct 15, from 9am to 2pm.

"The tests aim to identify those who had visited the said premises at the mentioned dates.

"Those who develop symptoms before the screening dates are advised to visit health facilities for immediate examination and treatment," he added.
