Covid-19: 374 new cases today

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has recorded 374 new Covid-19 cases today, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Of the total, 372 are local infections while only two are imported cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said the majority of the cases were from Sabah, with 277 or 74.1 per cent of the daily total.

Selangor, meanwhile, logged 44 new cases. Of the total, six were detected in individuals who had returned from Sabah.

"From the 372 local infections, 17 are those who have returned from Sabah, bringing the total number of positive cases with a history of traveling to Sabah since Sept 20 standing at 341," he said during a Facebook live session today.

The ministry also recorded 27 cases in Kedah, all linked to the Tembok prison cluster.

Other states that recorded new cases include Sarawak (nine), Kuala Lumpur (four) and Penang (three).

Johor, Perak and Labuan logged two cases each while Melaka and Putrajaya recorded one positive case.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 15,096 cases with 4,161 active cases.

"To date, 73 positive cases are being treated in the intensive care unit, where 28 need ventilators," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also said three more deaths had been reported, all in Sabah.

The deaths were reported in Hospital Tawau, Hospital Queen Elizabeth in Kota Kinabalu, and Hospital Semporna.

This increases the death toll to 155.
