Netizens 'lock' items in 'bidding war' at Ismail Sabri's briefing

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians' penchant for bargaining has no limits that some turned a Covid-19 briefing into a live "bidding" session.

While Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was delivering the daily updates on Covid-19 from his residence, Netizens "locked" items that were on display in a cabinet behind him.

Some tagged prices to the collectibles, which included a helmet, a miniature fighter jet, a keris, among others, in the "auction".

Even the blue-and-white striped shirt that the minister was wearing was not spared!

Ismail Sabri, who later learned that his collectibles were "up for grabs" while he was on air, took to Instagram to share his amusement.

"A friend told me that many items in my cabinet was 'locked'.

"Being an old man, I was scratching my head because I did not understand the slang that youngsters nowadays use.

"But, I burst into laughter when my friend explained it to me," he wrote on his Instagram page, posting some screenshots of netizens' comments.

"Last time, they used to poke fun at my batik shirts, saying that the outfits looked like cakes, kueh and drinks.

"Now, they are 'locking' (bidding) items from my cabinet," he said.

Ismail Sabri also lauded netizens for constantly cheering him on with their creative ideas.
