'Muhyiddin will fall if he gives in to Umno demands'

IPOH: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin will gradually lose power as Prime Minister should he fulfil the demands of Umno, said Khalid Abdul Samad.

The Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) strategic communications chief said Umno is unhappy with the Cabinet positions it was allotted, and is now demanding the Deputy Prime Ministerial post.

"It is all about negotiations now. Umno is negotiating with Muhyiddin since the latter still wants to hold on to power. If Umno withdraws its support, he (Muhyiddin) will fall.

"One condition that was voiced by Pasir Salak (Pasir Salak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman) recently was making Zahid (Bagan Datuk MP Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) the Deputy Prime Minister.

"Should he grant all the demands, Umno will keep asking, and after six months, Umno will ask (for more). In the end, they will probably demand the Prime Minister's seat as well, which will be the beginning of the end for Muhyiddin," he said.

Khalid told reporters this after launching the fifth Perak Amanah Convention at MH Hotel here, today. Present was Perak Amanah chairman, Asmuni Alwi.

Yesterday, Tajuddin revealed that Umno is unhappy with the Cabinet positions allocated to the party, which he said do not commensurate with the number of parliamentary seats it currently holds.

Tajuddin also claimed that several Umno leaders are also unhappy with the lack of a Deputy Prime Minister, which was replaced by four Senior Ministers, in the federal administration.

On Tuesday, Umno party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the party will be laying out new conditions to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government should the two sides proceed with their political cooperation.
